Young princes aim at throne

Ewen Ferguson and Grant Forrest may be youthful, but they have experience of the Championship links.

Two of Scotland’s brightest talents – Ewen Ferguson and Grant Forrest – will make their European Tour debuts at this week’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

The youngsters formed part of Great Britain and Ireland’s triumphant Walker Cup team last year, defeating the USA by a record winning margin of 16 ½ – 9 ½ at Royal Lytham St Annes.

Ferguson (20) and Forrest (23) will certainly be no strangers to the magnificent links of St Andrews, Canoustie and Kingsbarns, having played many an amateur event on the three world-class venues. Indeed, Forrest won the prestigious St Andrews Links Trophy over the Old Course last year as well as finishing runner-up in the Amateur Championship at Carnoustie.

Ferguson is making his first appearance in the Alfred Dunhill Links as a pro, but he competed alongside Frenchman Grégory Bourdy as an amateur in 2013.
