ST ANDREWS, October 5, 2018 – Former South African karting champion John Van Wyk is in pole position going into tomorrow’s third round of the Team Championship with Spanish pro Nacho Elvira.
The pair shot a betterball 12-under-par on the Old Course today to take the lead on 20-under, four shots ahead of English pro Ashley Chesters and Johannesburg equity trader Erwee Botha.
“I had such a great partner in Nacho. If I got into trouble, it didn’t matter and it made it really really easy. It’s an absolute privilege to be here”, said Van Wyk, who was enthusiastically greeted by his wife and son after his round.
The pair play at Kingsbarns tomorrow and Van Wyk said: “It’s the most unbelievable week of the year. There’s nothing better than this.”
