ST ANDREWS, September 26, 2019 – Southgate sets the pace as early leader in the clubhouse.
England’s Matthew Southgate was the early leader in the clubhouse after an impressive 65 at Carnoustie in the first round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Carnoustie is always considered the most difficult of the three courses played in the event and Southgate’s opening round lays down a marker. Highlight of his round was an eagle at the 12th.
One shot behind is Tommy Fleetwood, one of the favourites for the event, also at Carnoustie, and Scotland’s Russell Knox and Nino Bertasio from Italy, both playing at St Andrews.
