Local hero Knox takes the early lead at St Andrews

ST ANDREWS, September 26, 2019 – Local hero Knox takes the early lead at St Andrews.

Russell Knox had the Scottish galleries cheering at St Andrews as he took the early first round lead in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Knox shot five birdies in an outward half of 31 on the Old Course in bright blustery conditions.

When he turned for home he held a one shot lead over another Scot Euan Walker , Japan’s Hideto Tanihara and two-time winner Padraig Harrington, the European Ryder Cup captain, who was playing at Carnoustie.

Harrington is hoping to make history by becoming the first man to win a third Alfred Dunhill Links title.
