Fox and Warne share lead in Team Championship

ST ANDREWS, September 26, 2019 – Fox and Warne share lead in Team Championship.

New Zealand golfer Ryan Fox and former Australian cricketer Shane Warne share the lead in the Team Championship with a 12-under par first round score.

Fox credits the camaraderie he shares with cricket legend Warne as the key to his 64 at the Old Course. He said: “It’s great having someone like Warney who really wants to be here and is really competitive. It takes the pressure off my golf when I’m trying to play well for him, and that’s what I’ve needed at the moment.

“We get along really well and we’ve had a lot of fun out there in the past couple of years. I’m a massive cricket fan and there were plenty of texts going back and forth during the Ashes.”

Warne added: “To watch Foxy shoot 64 was unbelievable. He had five birdies on the back nine. I just stand back and applaud.”

Warne and Fox have come close to winning the Team Championship before. “We should have finished runners-up two years ago, only I missed a couple of little ones at the last and we ended third,” he said.
