Bid to play at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship

ST ANDREWS, September 17, 2018 – There is still a chance to be part of one of the most eagerly awaited and enjoyable events on the European Tour – the prestigious invitation-only Alfred Dunhill Links Championship – playing alongside many of the world’s leading professionals, over the Old Course St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns from October 4-7.

The last remaining amateur playing place in the Championship is up for auction – from 16.00hrs GMT today MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17 until 16.00hrs GMT on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21. Bids can be made by visiting www.ebay.co.uk and searching for ‘Alfred Dunhill Links Championship 2018’.

The place has been made available by the Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation, which raises funds for many charitable causes, including assisting young amateur golfers in Scotland and South Africa and supporting the town and University of St Andrews.

The winning bidder will be treated to the very best of Alfred Dunhill’s world famous hospitality. The package includes one amateur place in the 2018 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, five nights accommodation for two at an official tournament hotel (breakfast included), airport transfers from Edinburgh and invitations to the Championship’s exclusive social events.

With a prize fund of US$5 million, the Championship incorporates two separate competitions – an individual professional tournament for the world’s leading golfers and a team event in which the professionals are paired with some of the most celebrated amateur golfers, creating a unique atmosphere.

The winning bidder will be playing alongside star golfers such as Ernie Els, Tony Finau, Tommy Fleetwood, Padraig Harrington, Tyrrell Hatton, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Martin Kaymer, Brooks Koepka, Matt Kuchar and Graeme McDowell. Among the amateurs already confirmed are entertainment stars Ronan Keating, Greg Kinnear, Brian McFadden, Dave Farrell, Tom Chaplin, Huey Lewis and Tico Torres, plus sporting greats like Sir Ian Botham, Sir Steve Redgrave, Shane Warne, Kevin Pietersen, Brian O’Driscoll and Ruud Gullit.

The proceeds from the auction of this amateur playing spot will benefit the St Andrews Pilgrim Foundation SCIO, which is based in St Andrews and raises funds to advance community development and heritage by conserving, improving and developing the historic character of the town of St Andrews, an area of outstanding international attraction. The St Andrews Pilgrim Foundation SCIO Honorary President is Sir Michael Bonallack, the former secretary of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club, and is supported by many distinguished patrons including Jack Nicklaus, Tony Jacklin, Sir Sean Connery and Colin Montgomerie.
