A member of the South Africa team which won the 2007 Rugby World Cup, he holds the record for the most appearances by a Springbok flanker with 86 and the most tries by a flanker with 13.
He was named IRB World Player of the Year in 2004 and was twice South African Player of the Year in 2004 and 2011.
His father is Schalk Burger, who also played for South Africa.
This is his second appearance in the Alfred Dunhill Links.
