Fireworks and music spectacular in St Andrews on Saturday

ST ANDREWS, October 3, 2018 – The St Andrews night sky will be lit up with a spectacular fireworks display on the eve of the final day of this year’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

An annual favourite with golfers, spectators and St Andrews residents, the display will begin at 8.25pm on SATURDAY (October 6) and takes place on the West Sands, adjacent to the Old Course.

Music legend Ronan Keating says: “It’s one of our favourite nights of the year. Not only are all the golfers out to watch the display, the whole town comes out to celebrate and enjoy the most incredible display of fireworks and music.”

The best view will be from Links Road, behind the 17th green on the Old Course, and from the track in front of the Old Course Hotel.

This year the professional field has a classic line-up led by defending champion Tyrrell Hatton who is bidding to become the first man to win the Alfred Dunhill Links trophy three straight times. Also playing is current US Open and US PGA champion Brooks Koepka, his fellow Americans Tony Finau and Matt Kuchar, England’s world No.12 Tommy Fleetwood, plus other Major Champions Martin Kaymer, Ernie Els, Padraig Harrington, Louis Oosthuizen and Graeme McDowell, plus Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez, winner of the Senior British Open in July.

A ‘super group’ of great music stars, past and present, will be playing, including Ronan Keating and Brian McFadden, former lead singer of Westlife, Keane’s Tom Chaplin, Linkin Park’s Dave Farrell, Mike Rutherford from Genesis, country and western star Clay Walker and hugely popular legends Huey Lewis and Bon Jovi’s Tico Torres.

Sports stars taking part include Sir Steve Redgrave, making his 18th straight appearance, former world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, cricketers Michael Vaughan, Kevin Pietersen, Shane Warne, Jacques Kallis, Allan Lamb and Mark Nicholas, rugby legends Brian O’Driscoll and Fourie Du Preez, 20-times National Hunt champion jockey Sir Tony (A.P.)
